Anglo American and Nittetsu Mining (Nittetsu) have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on a variety of commercial and sustainability initiatives to further advance sustainable mining practices in the copper industry. Nittetsu is a prominent Japanese mining company with a global presence in the limestone and copper industries.

Anglo American will also support Nittetsu in its journey to achieve a recognised responsible mining standard, building upon Anglo American’s progress towards its commitment to assure all its operations against a recognised responsible mining standard by 2025.

Through this collaboration, both companies aim to explore new commercial opportunities and enhance the commercial offering of products and services by jointly engaging with producers, mid-stream and end users to develop and offer services and solutions in areas such as trading and marketing, carbon compensation and ESG traceability solutions. By sharing insights into decarbonisation technologies within their respective copper mining businesses, Anglo American and Nittetsu will explore potential areas of common interest to accelerate emissions reduction and promote decarbonisation initiatives.
